Following the 1-1 draw versus Huddersfield Town last weekend, the gaffer is hoping the team can continue picking up points, insisting: “It’s all about getting points on the board.
“Regardless of who you’re playing against, we’ve had a tough game, and the cup was a distraction, when we played Chelsea. Now we’ve got a real run of league games where we want to get as many points as we possibly can and make sure we’re in a good position.
“After Bournemouth, it has been a tough schedule and we had a game called off with QPR and just been a little bit disjointed with the cup game.
“Now we’re looking forward to a real run of games where we can batten down the hatches and get some performances and points in.”
Jones is also hoping his side can find their rhythm in front of goal, particularly away from home, starting against the Blues.
“Even in the Brentford game, we had umpteen chances to score goals and weren’t quite clinical enough," he said. "They were more clinical than us.
“There’s going to come a time when performances won’t matter and it’s just about results, but right now we’re showing that we are a good Championship side.
“We just have to have that edge when we’re on top. Both Blackburn and Huddersfield’s goals were so avoidable it’s unreal. They were poor, poor, poor goals to give away and that doesn’t happen to us really often.
“So, we’ve got to tighten up that end, take chances at the other end and then you’ll win more games than you lose.”
And with goals in mind, Deadline Day signings Tom Ince and Elijah Adebayo could be involved after a productive week of training.
“Fans want to see stuff and I totally understand, but we’ve got a level of player here and Tom hasn’t played since the 29th of December, so to ask him to go into a Championship game and do things, he has to build.
“We gave him 15 minutes the other day. He’s had a real good week training and his time will come and I’ve no doubt very soon.
“With Elijah, we’ve got to gauge it, but I’m excited about Elijah. I tell you, he’s impressed in the short time here. But I don’t just want to put him on stage. He’ll have to earn his way in.
“Once he does that, if he takes his opportunities, he’ll stay in and that the way it’s always been here.”
