Manager Nathan Jones claimed that top-of-the-table Fulham is ‘the hardest game in the league’ ahead of our clash with the Cottagers at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

Victory in the north-west against Blackpool last weekend meant the Hatters jumped up to 12th in the Sky Bet Championship after four games without a win.

Jones is excited about facing Saturday’s opponents, despite the difficulty of the task ahead.

“It’s the hardest game in the league, and the reason it’s the hardest game in the league is because right now they are the best team in the league,” said Jones. “The reason they’re the best team in the league is because they’re top of the league, so they’ve been very consistent and have a Premier League squad.

“In recent history, they’ve either been in the Premier League or at the top of the Championship, so we know it’s going to be a very, very tough game. They are the highest scorers in the league, they have some of the best players and they have a fantastic squad, but this is why we wanted to get to the Championship, to test ourselves all the time.

“If we wanted, with the greatest respect, to play Morecambe again, or whoever, then we probably wouldn't have bothered getting promoted. So these are the games that we love playing in.

“A full Kenny on a Saturday afternoon against the favourites to get promoted, the ones with the biggest budget and probably the strongest squad – what a great afternoon and we’re going to relish the challenge.”

Fulham are currently top of the Sky Bet Championship, however the Hatters lead the way with the most goals scored inside the six-yard box in England so far this season.

“You don’t score inside the six-yard box by luck,” said Jones. “If you score outside the box, it means you’ve got wonderful technicians. If you score inside the six-yard box it means you’re creating chances.

“It doesn’t matter where we score from but with things like that, we’re as good a pressing team in the division. Our defensive xG and all our numbers are very good, so we know we’re in a good place, it’s just making sure that all these things come together to get results.”
