Luton were impressively quick out of the blocks with two goals in the opening five minutes from Jacob Butterfield and James Collins, before Harry Cornick got in on the act just after the half-an-hour mark.

It was a dream start, with former Barnsley captain Butterfield firing home from the edge of the area with just 82 seconds on the clock.

Within two minutes the lead was doubled as James Bree was allowed space to drive the ball across the six-yard box for Collins to turn in from close range.

After Barnsley failed to deal with danger inside their box, Cornick was there to profit, hammering the loose ball past Radlinger and a host of defenders on the line from 12 yards.

The hosts did hit back with a goal in the second period, but the Town saw out the game comfortably in front of 1,175 away supporters.
