On Wycombe: “We’ll be as prepared as we possibly can be. We have experience of Wycombe and of real battles, through all three leagues now, and we have watched their recent games, so we know what tests were going to come up against and I think we have a decent record against them.

"We’ve only lost once since I’ve been here in six or seven outings, and I hope that continues because it will be a tough, tough game. Championship games are tough games anyway, and against Wycombe it’s an even tougher game because of the rivalry we’ve had."

On the chance of picking up points: “We’ve had a similar trajectory to Wycombe, obviously slightly earlier than them but it’s always a really, really tough game against Wycombe. We know that and we are going to have to be at it. There is a chance of points, there is always a chance for three points available in a Championship game because anything can happen. But at no point are we looking at it saying this is going to be an anything other than a war."

Who?

Wycombe Wanderers were promoted to the Championship for the first time in their history last season, beating Oxford United 2-1 in the Play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

The Chairboys and Luton were both promoted from League Two together in 2018 having been on similar journeys through the divisions in recent years.

The manager – Gareth Ainsworth

Gareth Ainsworth has been in charge of Wycombe since September 2012, leading the club to the Championship this season after a fantastic 3rd place finish on points per game, after the season was ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He is the second longest serving manager in the EFL and is also well known for his rock lifestyle off the pitch, as lead singer for The Cold Blooded Hearts.

Main threat – Fred Onyedinma

Fred Onyedinma joined the Chairboys on a permanent deal from Millwall in July 2019 following a number of prior loan spells with the club.

Though his game-time was limited due to injury, he still made a vital contribution in-front of goal last season, scoring four times in the league and twice in the play-offs.

When and where?

Kick-off is 3pm at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 3rd October.

Man in the middle?

The referee for tomorrow’s game is Graham Scott – who refereed the Hatters twice last season in home games against Bristol City and Birmingham City.

Played before?

The two sides last met in February 2019 in League One and Luton were 3-0 victors, with James Collins and a double from George Moncur enough to secure a win at Kenilworth Road.
