Club Sustainability Commitment

The Club is committed to sustainability and, by using a combination of modern technology and working practices, is working hard to reduce its carbon emission in all aspects of the club - from our training ground right through to the Community Trust

Energy Efficiency is important in all areas of the club and 90% of our lights are LEDs.

We leave heating and lighting on for only the required times - our floodlights at the stadium, which were installed in the summerof 2023, are only switched on just in time and for just as long as we need them to be.

Our partnership with Utilita allows us to regulary monitor and track our usage.

We work hard with our partners Cawleys to recycle all of our waste.

Cawleys are a local family run business, who like us, care about the environment.

Our recycling is completed at Cawleys facilities.

For more informtion visit www.cawleys.co.uk.

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, from fan travel to player travel

  • We partner with local bus and train companies to encourage usage of public transport

  • We also encourage car sharing and using trains where possible

  • We recently partnered with Octopus and a number of our staff use electric vehicles

  • We avoid using flights where possible, instead using trains or the team coach

  • We car share to games where possible

Matchday Sustainability

Matchday Waste can be split into a number of areas:

  • Plastics and General Waste

This is collected in bins located around the stadium and then picked up by our partners Cawley who the sort and recycle it back at their facilities.

  • Pitch Waste - Grass

The cuttings are separated into their own bins and also collected by Cawley, who facilitate the removal.

  • Food Waste

Oil is collected and safely collected and disposed off by Cawleys.

Matchdays are where most of our systems are powered on, therefore it is when we use the most energy.

In the 2023/24 season we took the opportunity to upgrade various elements of our stadium:

  • We introduced LED lights where possible alongside smart sensors to ensure minimal light usage

  • We put in place policies that all non-essential electrical equipment and apparatus is switched off between home games, including coolers, chillers and refrigerators

  • We are currently trailing some electric mowers and eletric vehicles at our training ground

  • We actively engage with our fans directly to encourage energy efficiency in their homes, through events with our main sponsor Utilita

  • The Club has a strategy in place to reduce/remove single use plastic from all catering operations, the below have been introduced at Luton Town in the last 24 months:

  • Our retail team have an eco range which includes hoodies, tees and polo shorts. The range has doubled in size since the 2023/24 season going from offering two lines to now five lines of clothing. This is all organic cotton and made in ethical factories.

  • Our mailing bags used for fulfilment are fully compostable and we have now moved onto eco friendly bubble wrap and padded envelopes.

  • Our carrier bags are made from recyclable materials and are fully recyclable.

  • All other packing from deliveries and stores are recycled alongside our partnership with Cawley's waste management

  • We use hand driers in all areas, rather than paper towels to avoid waste.

Community Sustainability

Our Community Trust has multiple programmes where they are involved in the local community to publicise and teach how to be more sustainable.

Through our Premier League Primary Stars programme, we educate children to support them to become active climate citizens of the future through our activations in school. On top of our climate focused assemblies, we had 18 pupils across our partner schools deliver three social action projects with an environmental focus last academic year.

Here is a link to the Premier League Primary Stars Programme: Premier League Primary Stars.

As part of our Premier League Kicks programme, we facilitate opportunities for our participants to lead on community-based social action projects.

These have included litter pickers around the areas local to the astroturf in Farley Hill and Lea Manor Schools.

Our community coaches car share to get to our Premier League Kicks sessions. We promote the use of train travel over driving to get to conferences and training events.
