Walters and Makossi missing for Bradford

Defenders unavailable for Valley Parade trip through injury and suspension

The Town will be without Reuell Walters for Saturday’s trip to Bradford after the wing-back picked up a groin injury in last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Peterborough.

The former Arsenal defender will join Christ Makosso on the sidelines for this weekend’s trip to Valley Parade with the latter serving the second game of a three-match ban.

“It’s disappointing for us and for Reuell, especially at such a busy period of the season,” said manager Matt Bloomfield at his Wednesday press call. “He’ll be missing for two to three weeks.”

The boss does have options in wide wing-back areas, with new arrivals Gideon Kodua and Cohen Bramall producing assured displays on their debuts in the Carabao Cup tie at Coventry on Tuesday night.

Mark McGuinness, who came in for Makosso at the CBS Arena, is likely to keep his place in West Yorkshire.

On the subject of wing-backs, Bloomfield will continue to be without the services of Izzy Jones, who remains unavailable with a fractured bone in his back.

“We’ve got no timescales on Izzy but he is due to have a scan next week,” said the manager. “Once he’s had that, it will be six weeks post-injury, so if that comes back positive, he might be able to start picking up his rehab.

“He’s not imminent – but we’re waiting on the scan, and if it’s showing that there’s still a fracture then it will obviously take longer.”

On Saturday’s opponents Bradford, Bloomfield is expecting a difficult test against a side who have won two of their first three games this season following promotion from League 2 last term.

“They’ve come up, won their first home game of the season and won in the cup; they’re a solid team,” he said.

“They all know their jobs, they’re well-drilled, and they will put us under pressure, so it will be a tough game.

“They’ve got some sturdy characters who have been around the game and know what it’s all about, so we know what to expect.

“It’ll be a good atmosphere, too, so we’re looking forward to it.”
