The Town Under-18s made it two wins from two to start the season with a dramatic 6-4 win over Leyton Orient in the Youth Alliance on Tuesday at The Brache.

Following their 5-1 win over Plymouth on Saturday, Joe Deeney’s side wasted no time in carrying from where they left off and were 2-0 up inside eight minutes.

They were a goal up inside 30 seconds when Lloyd Asamoah’s pass found Ty Lesser who half-volleyed from six yards out.

Lesser then set-up Kyron Roberts-Edema to smash home to make it 2-0 to put the Hatters in control.

However, by half-time, the lead had been wiped out as Orient scored twice to level things up going into the interval.

The scoring continued after the restart, when Harry Fox and Rufus Barnes forced a chance for Lesser to head home his second from close range to put the Town 3-2 up.

But back came Orient. It was 3-3 on 64 minutes and then with seven minutes left the visitors went 4-3 up after a close-range finish.

Yet the Hatters responded straight from the restart when Darren Frimpong-Kwakye was fouled in the box, Orient were reduced to 10 men and Fox converted from 12 yards. That’s 4-4 now.

Incredibly, within a minute, the Town went 5-4 up when a quick-thinking move led to David Gawel burying an effort high into the roof of the net.

The Hatters then completed the scoring injury time when Gawel raced clear to slot home beyond the Orient keeper to make it 6-4.

“This was a crazy game – it could have been 10-10,” said Deeney. “Credit to both teams but the errors were all avoidable.

“The message to the lads now is ‘zeros and ones’ – clean sheets are now high on the agenda. However, it was great that we found a way to win, to score late and it capped a great week with Christian Chigozie making his debut for the first team.”
