The Town Under-18s bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Forest Green with a 4-0 victory at Exeter on Saturday in the Youth Alliance.
Joe Deeney’s side were 3-0 to the good before half-time, taking the lead on six minutes when Dawid Gawel squared for Darren Frimpong-Kwakye to finish inside the six-yard box.
One became two on nine minutes and Gawel was once again the creator, sliding through Nassim El-Gourja, who drilled a fine left-foot finish in the bottom corner.
It was then 3-0 on 18 minutes when Gawel took a pass from Christian Chigozie, turned in the box and hammered an unstoppable finish high into the net for his 10th goal of the season.
Chances came and went for the Hatters to extend their lead with Gawel and Sam Hincapie-Alfonso going close.
And it was not until the 73rd minute that the Town were on target again when Enoch Kwame Anson found Excel Ed-Okungbowa, and the substitute took advantage of a mix-up in the Exeter defence to round the goalkeeper and finish into an empty net.
Kwane Anson was sent off for a second bookable offence as the Hatters finished the game with 10 men but Deeney’s side comfortably held out to keep a clean sheet and banish the memories of the 3-0 at Forest Green last weekend.
“Any 4-0 win away from home is a good one,” Deeney said afterwards. “I’m proud of the boys with the way they have performed after the disappointment of last week.
“We were worthy winners and worked hard to fix the issues that appeared at Forest Green.
“It was a long coach journey there and back. The boys have really learned a lot this past week. We were comfortable throughout. Sure, we could have scored a few more but, on the whole, it was very pleasing.”
