Samuel Hincapie-Alfonso’s late strike wasn’t enough to secure three points at Billericay as the home side struck late to deny the Town U21s victory
Goals from Archie Shepherd, Dylan Stitt and Alfonso were not enough for Alex Lawless’ side as the hosts fought back three times to hinder the Hatters in their new mini league for the U21s side.
It could have been an entirely different game after just ten minutes as an early foul inside the box presented an opportunity for Billericay to score an early opener, though Town stopper Lucas Thomas continued his impressive track record at denying goals from 12 yards with an impressive stop to his left.
That save proved vital as midway through the first half, Shepherd collected the ball on the edge of the area before working his way into space to fire a precise finish low into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
The entertainment didn’t stop there as after half an hour played, Billericay levelled the game from close range, though the Hatters remained resolute and found their second just minutes later when Dylan Stitt stepped up for a free-kick on the edge of he area, using clever instincts to fire a low drive under the wall and into the back of the net to restore their lead.
The hosts once again found a leveller just five minutes after the break, scoring an almost identical goal following an initial save from Thomas, with the defence unable to prevent a finish from the rebound.
With conditions worsening, the 4G pitch at The New Lodge earned its plaudits as both sides fought valiantly to break the deadlock again. Alfonso scored Towns third with an effort any number nine would be proud of, staying alert in the area to pinch the ball from the Billericay goalkeeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.
Unfortunately, the hosts worked hard to find a third for themselves, levelling once more with just five minutes of normal time to play, with the Hatters unable to find a fourth before the final whistle.
