The Under-18s maintained their red-hot start to the season as a 3-0 victory over Newport made it six wins in seven games on Saturday morning.
For the third game in a row Joe Deeney’s side scored inside the opening three minutes when a Finley Evans cross found Lloyd Asamoah Jnr and he took a touch before rifling home high into the roof of the net.
The lead was then doubled on 18 minutes when Nassim El Gourja played a slide-rule pass into the feet of Samuel Hincapie-Alfonso and the striker struck a composed finish into the bottom corner.
As the Town continued to dominate, it was 3-0 shortly after the half-hour mark when Asamoah Junior beat the Newport goalkeeper to a high pass from El Gourja before squaring for Dawid Gawel to turn home his 12th goal of the season.
It was a different game after the break as the conditions worsened in the rain, however, the Hatters still created opportunities.
Gawel dragged a shot wide before being denied a second goal from the spot when the Newport goalkeeper saved his penalty, but the Town held on comfortably to maintain their place at the top of the table.
Deeney told lutontown.co.uk: “It was another strong performance and the only disappointment was that we didn’t score a few more.
“However, it’s a clean sheet and the lads showed real resilience throughout.
“It was another fast start and overall I’m very pleased. It was a young group who gave everything.”
Next up for the Under-18s is a home game at The Brache against Swindon in the Youth Alliance on Saturday.
