A reminder we need to be at it - Krul

Goalkeeper Tim Krul shared his manager’s disappointment of Sunday’s goalless FA Cup draw with Bolton and hopes the result can give the Hatters’ a timely reminder ahead of Friday’s Premier League meeting with Burnley.

“Normally I’d be happy with a clean sheet but there’s a lot of disappointment that we didn’t get the win,” said the 35-year-old.

“I think in the first half we weren’t quite at it, we were about 80 per cent. The second half we really came out flying. We did enough to get over the line; we hit the post, had plenty of shots and maybe we could have had a penalty so I think we were a bit unlucky.

“However, I think it’s a good reminder that we need to be at it from the start in any game and every game, so we’re disappointed but I think we know on Friday at Burnley we need to be at it from the start.”

It might have only been the Dutchman’s third appearance of the season since arriving in the summer, but the experienced stopper admitted he is enjoying his time at Kenilworth Road.

“I’m loving it,” he said. “I do feel there’s a spirit around the club and a true belief that we can stay up.

“We have given the big teams, especially at home, a hard time and maybe we’ve deserved more points so there’s a lot to come from us.

“We know it’s going to be hard, but we’re doing to give everything we’ve got.”

Even though Thomas Kaminski’s performances have restricted Krul’s minutes on the pitch, the former Netherlands international is happy with the role he is playing from the bench in the Premier League.

“Thomas has been tremendous and one of the reasons why we’ve been doing so well,” said Krul. “I’ve been training day in, day out, and have needed to be ready. Obviously this week has been a lot more enjoyable knowing there’s a game at the end of it.

“But listen, I’m not resting on my laurels, I’m pushing Thomas as hard as I can, and do all I can to work with everyone off the pitch. I’m excited for what the second half of the season is going to bring; I do think there’s a lot of come from us.

“As a number two keeper, you know you need to be ready at any time.”
