Midfielder optimistic of success after near miss this season

Player of the year Nathan Doyle says the Hatters have nothing to fear in League 2 next season after more than holding their own in their first season back in the Football League.

The Town were pipped to the final Play-Off place on the last day of the season, but midfielder Doyle – who joined the Hatters from Bradford in September and was crowned the supporters’ player of the year – believes they can take the positives from the eighth placed finish this term.

“Nobody outside of the club expected Luton Town to be pushing for promotion this season but inside we believed we could do it,” the 28-year-old told Hatters Player after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Stevenage

“Unfortunately the results didn’t go our way but we’ve played some good teams who have been in this league for a long time now.

“We were up there challenging for a long, long time; grinded results out, played teams off the park at home and when you look at the season as a whole I think we have to give ourselves a pat on the back.

“We’ve been a bit unlucky with injuries and suspensions at certain times of the season but that’s football, but we will come back fitter, stronger, better and knowing what to expect from the division. We can take the disappointments from this year, learn from them and carry on next year.

“There’s certainly nothing to fear. The quality in the squad is tremendous, right the way through the team, and I know we will be better for it next season.”
