Wilkinson doubtful, while Still rules out loan signing

John Still says he will check on the fitness of defender Luke Wilkinson ahead of Saturday's game at Newport County.

The centre-half, who had played every minute for the Town in League 2 this season, missed Tuesday's 4-3 home defeat to Carlisle with a thigh strain.

"He hasn't trained today [Thursday], and we'll have to wait and see on Friday whether he's available for Saturday," said the manager at his Thursday press conference.

Still explained that both Nathan Doyle and Magnus Okuonghae have trained this week, although the boss believes the pair ideally need a development game to improve their match fitness. He did not, however, rule the pair out of the weekend trip to South Wales.

In other injury news, Dan Potts and Luke Guttridge are doubtful having picked up minor hamstring and knee injuries respectively, while Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu remains unavailable with an ankle problem. "Pelly's making progress but he's not quite ready yet," said Still.

Paul Benson serves the second game of a three-match suspension for his red card against Stevenage and Still confirmed that his efforts to bring in a striker on loan have failed. "We looked at something but it's not going to happened," he said. "We'll have what we've got until January."
