Boss on winning start to pre-season

John Still was happy with his side’s performance as the Town’s first friendly of the summer ended in a comfortable 5-0 win over Hitchin.

Alex Wall grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick at Top Field but the striker wasn’t the only player to impress in the Hatters’ pre-season curtain-raiser.

“I’m pleased with what I saw,” said the Town boss. “We were out of the traps early, we looked sharp and moved it well. We could have scored a few more but the most important thing was minutes on the pitch for everyone.

“Luke Wilkinson didn’t train in Portugal but he’s got over an hour tonight and he did really well. He slotted in alongside Macca [McNulty] and they looked as though they’d been playing together forever.

“Alex Wall has similar pace and similar strength to Andre Gray. He can score goals and maybe that position down the right is one for him. But it’s early days. We’ve not even made any half-decisions about who will play where.

“Everyone who hasn’t got a knock was involved and everyone did what we would have hoped of them. There are no disappointments from the game.”
