The Town’s injury situation isn’t likely to improve much for Saturday’s key Premier League clash with Brentford according to manager Rob Edwards with Teden Mengi the only player that could make a return.
Pressed for an update on the availability of his walking wounded, the boss revealed that Mengi was a “maybe” but that Sambi Lokonga, Gabe Osho, Chiedozie Ogbene and Elijah Adebayo won’t be fit to feature against the Bees.
Defensive duo Dan Potts and Mads Andersen are “on the list of maybes” – and might be in contention to play a part in the final one or two matches.
“We’re filtering people back and people are getting closer but we don’t want to risk anyone,” said Edwards on Friday. “Then again, we could get to stage where we might have to take some risks.
“But we’ve had 11 or 12 out recently so the group know what we’re up against. We’ve had five teenagers and two goalkeepers on the bench recently and hopefully, as the weeks pass, we’ll get more in shape and become stronger.”
The Hatters know a victory would lift them out of the relegation zone ahead of Sunday’s meeting between Everton and Nottingham Forest – the two sides directly above the Town in the table.
“The players know, we all know, that it’s an important game and every time we’ve challenged the players they’ve risen to the occasion,” continued Edwards.
“We asked them to go and get a result against Bournemouth and they responded with a brilliant second half display.
“We know the aim, the players do, and we feel we can certainly get results in all of our remaining games. The lads know what’s at stake and it is an important game.
“It’s not a must win game. If we don’t, we don’t get relegated do we? But we realise the importance of the game. We're looking forward to it. We don’t want the journey to end.”
