Gambin had been with the Bees since joining as an apprentice in 2009 and had made 136 appearances, scoring 15 times, while helping the north London club win the Conference title in 2014-15 and establish themselves back in League Two.
Since making his international debut in May 2016, the Sutton-born midfielder has gained top-level experience by playing for Malta in a World Cup qualifying group that contained England and Scotland, helping the Maltese to a first win in 17 matches when they beat Ukraine 1-0 in June 2017.
Gambin penned a two-and-a-half year contract upon signing at Kenilworth Road, with the Hatters having an option to extend it to 2020, and he scored his first goal for the club in the 3-0 home win over Hartlepool in February 2017.
Made 20 appearances last season, scoring twice.
