A young Luton Town XI helped Hitchin Town celebrate long-serving secretary and treasurer Roy Izzard's 50 years as a volunteer by visiting Top Field for a friendly on Friday evening.

A crowd of over 500 were present at the Hertfordshire ground where the Hatters' development squad play some of their home matches, and they witnessed an entertaining game in which the hosts ran out 4-1 winners.

In their manager Mark Burke's final game in charge, after the former Kenilworth Road youth player called time on his 11-year spell in the Hitchin hot-seat this week, the Canaries raced into a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of Stan Georgiou, Kye Tearle and Finley Wilkinson's goals.

Sub Jamie Odegah, on as a half-time replacement for January signing from Reading, Taylan Harris, set up Northern Irish midfielder Dylan Stitt for a 61st-minute reply for the Hatters.

But the Southern League Premier Division Central side restored their three-goal advantage with five minutes left as Isaac Galliford, one of several former Hatters youngsters in the Hitchin line-up, found the back of the net.

Everyone at Kenilworth Road sends their congratulations to Roy on his amazing service to the Canaries, and a special thank you to everyone who attended the game with funds raised helping to pay for the installation of a community defibrillator at Top Field and a donation to the British Heart Foundation.
