A regular for the development squad this season, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder has featured several times on the bench for the senior team in the Premier League.

Manager Rob Edwards said: “Zack is a real talent; a brilliant young person who we have real high hopes for.

“He’s an attacking midfielder but can play higher, as a false 9 or wider, and is technically excellent. He’s been training with the first team and is getting better all the time.

“He’s fitted in well to the group too, and that tells you all you need to know – the senior lads can see his talent and know he’s going to be a really good player.

“Zack’s another exciting prospect that’s come through our academy so credit to everyone involved in his development, including Zack himself, who deserves this.”

Nelson began at the Tottenham Hotspur academy as a seven-year-old but was released by Spurs at 15. It was then that he joined the Hatters after a successful trial.

The Enfield-born youngster scored a hat-trick against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in the FA Youth Cup third round last season before netting at Kenilworth Road against QPR in the following round.

Nelson signed his first professional development contract in March 2023 and was an unused substitute for the first team on three occasions during the Championship promotion-winning season.

This term his experience with the first team has continued having been an unnamed substitute in Edwards’ squad for several matches in the Premier League, including Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over Brighton.

Big congratulations to you, Zack!
