The 22-year-old left-sided midfielder becomes Nathan Jones’ first signing of the 2022 summer transfer window and arrives at Kenilworth Road for an undisclosed fee.

Doughty started his career with Charlton Athletic aged eight and progressed through the youth ranks before making his debut in the EFL Cup in 2018.

Shortly after that he joined Isthmian League club Kingstonian on loan, where he made 16 first-team appearances, followed by a brief one-month spell at National League side Bromley.

Doughty returned to Charlton and became a regular under then-manager Lee Bowyer during the 2019/20 Championship season. He made 29 league appearances – scoring two goals and assisting three – and was voted as Charlton’s Young Player of the Year.

In January 2021, the Londoner joined Stoke City for an undisclosed fee. He played 16 times for the Potters in all competitions last season prior to his loan spell at Cardiff City, where he played a further nine league matches and scored once.

“I’m very excited to be a Luton player,” Doughty said after penning a permanent deal with the Hatters. “It is a fresh start and I want to get started straight away.

“Over the last few years, getting top half the year before and then top six last year, you can tell the team is just getting better and better, and that is definitely one of the reasons why I’m here.”
