A superb second half display saw Luton Town Ladies score five to secure their first win on the opening day!

Captain Jess McKay scored a brace, and Adi Milton, Elly Wade, Fiona Constable added one each.

The Hatters started well and on 16 minutes the Kings Lynn keeper handled the ball outside the box leading to a free kick. McKay stepped up and her shot was fired just over. Leyah Maddix also had a shot saved and one just over the cross bar.

Just before half time keeper Angelika Kopec made a great save, tipping a shot from distance over the bar.

After a goalless first half it only took two minutes to open the score. McKay put another superb ball into the box and Milton rose the highest to nod it in.

Five minutes later Constable’s mazy run led to the ball falling to McKay who stepped up and smashed it home to double the lead on 53 minutes.

Elly Wade then completed a lethal 10 minute spell when she headed in a Constable corner to make it 3-0.

Constable then turned creator to scorer on 63 minutes when she drifted out wide, spotted the keeper slightly off her line and dinked it into the top corner over the keeper for the fourth.

Minutes later Luton were caught napping and failed to clear a corner and the ball was poked over the line to make it 4-1.

Janz Allen made her debut from the bench and had an instant impact with a shot on goal but it was well saved.

Another lapse in concentration saw the away side get themselves another goal against the run of play as the attacker ran through three players and slotted it into the net to make it 4-2.

However the Hatters weren’t done yet and in the dying minutes captain fantastic McKay scored a belter from 35 yards. She spotted the keeper off her line and sank it into the net with a thunderbolt shot to complete the scoring.

Thank you to all of the fans who attended the game at Kenilworth Road, especially lots of our young players from the youth section, making up a section of a large crowd of 469.

Next up for Town is an away trip to Bedford Town on the 28th before hosting Haringey on September 4th.
