MATCH PREVIEW: LUTON TOWN V ACCRINGTON STANLEY

9 March 2018

Sponsored by

The Hatters take on Accrington Stanley tomorrow at Kenilworth Road in one of the biggest games of the Sky Bet League Two season so far - as well as there being another Family Fun Day outside the Kenny End, as we celebrate Mother's Day.

Town sit a point clear at the summit of the fourth tier, with in-form Stanley occupying second place.

John Coleman's side have picked up 25 points in their last ten games, putting them top of the form tables. That in part has been thanks to the form of striker Billy Kee, who has netted ten goals in his last 14 outings, but defensively Accrington have also been in fine fettle – keeping six clean sheets since the turn of the year.

The Hatters have been in pretty decent form of late, averaging about 1.9 points per game over their last eight games. Unbeaten in five league games heading into tomorrow's fixture, Nathan Jones' team boast the third best home record in the top four tiers of English football, behind only Manchester City and Cardiff City.

THE GAFFER SAYS:

On if he's surprised by Accrington's position in the table: "No, not really. They do good work, I think the words are perennial achievers. When I came here, they narrowly missed out on promotion on the last day of the season.

"Last year they were in and around the play-offs and wanted a late push. This year they're doing wonderfully. They're on a great run, they really, really are, so it doesn't surprise me.

"John Coleman to be fair to him, on I think – I don't know this for certain – but I think it's limited resources they have there, does wonderful work and produces players as well, because he's lost a few players in terms of Matty Pearson, Omar Beckles and Shay McCartan left. Yet he's replaced them with Kayden Jackson and people like that, who have done very well, so credit to him.

On Billy Kee: "He's always a threat, he's like the James Collins', the goalscorers at this level and they score regularly. If you play Billy Kee in enough games, he'll score enough goals. God willing it won't be against us."

WHO?

Now in their 12th season in the fourth tier, Accrington have reached the Sky Bet League Two play-offs on two occasions. The first came in 2011 when they were defeated 3-0 by Stevenage over two semi-final legs, but the most gutting of all came in 2016 – after missing out on automatic promotion on goal difference, a semi-final defeat again saw Stanley miss out on promotion, this time to AFC Wimbledon in extra-time.

WHEN AND WHERE?

Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday 10th March at Kenilworth Road.
