The Hatters got their second win of pre-season as a late flurry of goals saw them put five past Southern Premier Division South outfit Chesham United at The Meadow this evening.

After a sluggish start, James Collins had the first real chance of note 12 minutes in – but his effort from the edge of the box drifted wide of Mo Sampat's goal, with the striker looking to find the bottom left corner.

It provided the spark the game needed, with Jon-Jo Bates seeing his cross-shot from the edge of the box well tipped over by James Shea, but the keeper could do nothing about Ryan Blake's header in the 21st minute as the Generals took the lead. Nathan Webb exploited space down the right, swinging in an excellent cross for the striker to convert from eight yards – sending it past Shea and into the bottom left corner.

Town replied on the stroke of the 30-minute mark in decent fashion though, with Elliot Lee playing Jake Jervis through – the striker dispatching the ball past Sampat from 15 yards to bring the score level.

Collins should've done better two minutes before the break, as Jervis flicked the ball on for him, he managed to get past his marker but his curling effort from 25 yards was well over.

Bates went close for the hosts again five minutes after the restart, but his well struck effort was deflected just wide of Shea's goal.

The Hatters made ten changes on the hour mark, with every outfield player replaced, whilst Shea remained in goal for the full 90 minutes.

The changes proved to be fruitful almost immediately as Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu was unlucky not to fire home from close range after a brilliant turn – but his pass to Justin setup the goal just moments later that put the Hatters in the lead for the first time on the night. Justin played a one-two with Pelly, with the former breaking through the Generals defence and latching on to the end of a brilliant ball from Mpanzu. He was through on goal with Sampat sprinting off his line – but Justin selflessly teed up Jorge Grant to pass it in.

Town then bagged three goals in the space of seven minutes to ensure there wasn't going to be a late rally from the hosts. Grant added his second as he fired in from Cornick's saved effort, before Danny Hylton got his first of pre-season as he tucked away from close range following a brilliant swivel on the ball. Matty Pearson then rounded off the scoring, as he headed in from a well taken corner from Alan Sheehan.

The Hatters are back in pre-season action on Saturday, as they head to Clarence Park to take on St Albans City.
