MATCH PREVIEW: GRIMSBY TOWN V LUTON TOWN

26 January 2018

Sponsored by

The Hatters travel up to Grimsby Town tomorrow with the intention of extending their lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two as well as ending a run of two successive away league defeats.

Town's lead of six points at the summit of the fourth tier was made slightly more comfortable in midweek as second placed Notts County fell to a home defeat against Crawley Town, meaning Kevin Nolan's side have played a game more than the Hatters.

Tomorrow's hosts were on an unbeaten run of four games prior to their 2-0 defeat at Kenilworth Road in December, a result which hasn't seen them win in their six games since.

In their 15 home games this season, the Mariners have won four, drawn five and lost six, but have today brought in striker Mallik Wilks on loan from Leeds United to add some fire power up front.

THE GAFFER SAYS:

On getting back to winning ways on the road: "We've got a big month. We knew this was a big month and we have got two games remaining, two very big games. We have got to make sure we continue our decent form, we have lost one this month. In general we have been in very good form, we have got to continue that."

On confidence: "With the group of players we have got and where we are in the league, we're always confident. But we have lost our last two away games and we haven't performed anywhere near the levels they have [done before]. We will have to do that otherwise we could face another defeat. We don't look like that. What we have done is prepared well. We are really looking forward to the game and it should be a different performance from the ones we have seen recently."

On a change of thinking for the game: "There's definitely got to be a change in thinking, whatever thinking we have gone in with, we have lost two games. Whatever happens I want to see a reaction after the last two games.

"I put it down to things at Port Vale that we weren't set-up for, but there were no excuses against Chesterfield. We didn't start well enough, we conceded. We then didn't impose ourselves, we were nowhere near ourselves in any way. So we have got to rectify that."

WHO?

A Championship outfit as recently as 2003, the Mariners slipped down the EFL and eventually into Non-League in 2010, the first time in 117 years. Six seasons spent in the National League saw three successive play-off defeats, the fourth attempt finally saw their return to the fourth tier, as an Omar Bogle brace and a late strike from Padraig Amond secured a 3-1 win over Forest Green Rovers in the play-off final.

The Mariners are encouraging supporters to wear shirts from different generations to support Sporting Memories, which you can read more about by clicking here. Town fans are also encouraged to wear retro shirts to the match.

Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday 27th January at Blundell Park.
