A Town XI put in a dominant display against Brentford B this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly at the Brache as Jake Jervis bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory.

The visitors had the first chance of the game seven minutes in as Kolbeinn Finnsson's effort from 12-yards was well blocked by Lloyd Jones, with the Bees midfielder's strike looking destined to hit the back of the net.

The defender had to be alert four minutes later, as he got in the way of Marcus Forss' strike, before James Shea did well to palm away the forward's second effort from the edge of the box.

Led by Joaquin Gomez, the Hatters took the lead 17 minutes in, when Luke Gambin split the Brentford defence with an excellent ball – Jake Jervis was able to calmly slot the ball into the bottom left corner.

Just four minutes later he had his second of the afternoon – firing the ball into the same corner he had found earlier, this time from the penalty spot after he was tripped as he darted into the box.

The ex-Plymouth Argyle man nearly turned provider when his excellent cross from the left was met by Aaron Jarvis eight-yards out, but the 20-year-old's first-time effort was narrowly over the Brentford goal.

Glen Rea headed over from an Andrew Shinnie free-kick aimed towards the back stick, after Jarvis had been brought down to the left of the Bees' box five minutes after the second half commenced.

Jack Senior fancied his chances from range, stinging the trialist keeper's hands with a rasping effort, having found space 25-yards from goal.

Jervis grabbed his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go, after he was cynically brought down when one-on-one with the Brentford keeper, winning the Hatters a penalty. The striker buried his spot-kick in the bottom right corner this time, capping off a fine performance.

Jones thought he'd added to his side's lead when he got good contact on a Gambin cross, but the defender's header was well saved by the trialist stopper with 15 minutes left to play.

He couldn't do anything about Jarvis' header two-minutes later though, as the striker got on the end of Sonny Bradley's flick across goal, having done well to get on the end of a Gambin ball.

Town: Shea, Stacey (Musonda 59), Jones, Bradley, Senior, Rea, Read, Gambin, Shinnie, Jervis, Jarvis.

Brentford B: Trialist (GK), Clarke, Racic, Sorensen, Kirk, Oksanen, Mitchell, Finnsson, Trialist (FW), Forss, Ogbene.
