Hatters striker James Collins' prolific start to life as a Luton Town player has seen him shortlisted for the Sky Bet EFL League Player of the Month award for August.

Collins scored five times in four league matches in the opening month of the campaign, averaging a goal every 67 minutes.

The winner of the award will be announced on Friday, but here's what the EFL had to say about the 26-year-old and the other three players he is up against...

James Collins (Luton Town) – striker

His new career at Kenilworth Road could not have begun better than a hat-trick in Luton’s 8-2 opening day win over Yeovil. The rampaging striker then scored against Colchester and Mansfield, too, to make it five in four games.

Kayden Jackson (Accrington Stanley) – striker

Signed from Barnsley in the summer, the 23-year-old scored four goals in as many games to begin his Stanley career. Direct, quick and full of running, his link-up play is shown by the understanding he has already formed with Billy Kee.

Joe Jacobson (Wycombe Wanderers) – full-back

While Wycombe conceded 10 goals in August, they scored just as many and Jacobson made a remarkable impact from left-back, with three goals and two assists. They included a pair of free-kicks, including a sumptuous 25-yard curler against Notts County.

Frank Nouble (Newport County) – striker

The numbers speak for themselves from the most prolific month of the 25-year-old’s career to date. Five goals and an assist in four games included a 13-minute hat-trick against Chesterfield, which featured an unstoppable 25-yarder into the top corner.
