Hatters shortlisted for League 2 Medical & Science Award

Congratulations to the Hatters’ medical and sports science staff, who have been shortlisted for the Football Medical Association’s League Two Medical & Science Team of the Year Award.

The FMA Annual Conference and Awards evening is the flagship event for medical and science practitioners in professional football, and the fact that physio Simon Parsell and his team have been shortlisted a huge testament to the immense work they have put in throughout the season keeping Nathan Jones’ squad fit and well.

Parsell – whose team consists of head of sports science Jared Roberts-Smith and assistant Ali Kerr, masseur Darren Cook, academy physio Dan Simm, club doctor Dr Paul Deeley and club chiropractor David Leu – said: “It's great to be nominated for any award, but to be nominated by Football Medical Association is even more special as it comes from your peers. It is recognition of all the hard work of the those in the department.

“I must say a big thank-you to Nathan, who trusts us to get on with our job, and to Gary Sweet and the board, who have backed us financially when we have asked for things.”

Over the course of the season, the fantastic work the medical and sports science team at the club has been highlighted by the success on the field, as the first team push for promotion to Sky Bet League One.

“We are always trying to provide the best possible standards of care, rehab and preventative protocols to ensure we keep our players fit and available,” Parsell continued. “The players have taken these the new protocols on board and listened to us.

“I would also like to thank Bobbers Travel Club who continue to support the medical and science department with contributions. I think it really shows the unity at the club.”

The winner of the award will be announced at the Football Medical Association Annual Conference and Awards evening, which takes place on 27th May at the Radisson Blu East Midlands Hotel.
