The gaffer held his first press conference at the Brache today

Town boss Nathan Jones lauded the quality of the facilities at his disposal at The Brache as he looks forward to final league game of the regular season.

The Hatters squad have now moved into the buildings that have been renovated for the club’s use, and Jones can’t get over how impressive the new training headquarters are.

He said: “It’s wonderful. When I first came here we spoke about the facilities being key in terms of the pitches and how we want to move forward. To be fair to Gary Sweet, the board and the club, they have really pushed the boat out and done it very, very quickly for us.

“We have been training here twice a week for about a month, but we have actually moved in officially now.

“It’s not totally finished, there are a few things that still need doing, but it’s a wonderful facility. The club have invested so much money in it, which we thank them for. But it’s so important, especially the pitches, to how we play.

“The training sessions really have gone through the roof. It’s quality what we have been able to do.”

With the Sky Bet League Two play-offs just over the horizon, the Welshman had played down the thought of them in recent weeks, but he accepts that he can’t stop his players or the supporters talking about what is to come after the Morecambe game on Saturday.

“Of course, people talk about the play-offs, you have to make plans,” Jones explained. “But now it’s about focusing on taking it game-to-game and finishing the season strongly in terms of performances levels and results. We have got one game left and then we can focus totally on the play-offs.”

The gaffer isn’t looking to change his squad drastically either to give certain players a rest ahead of the play-off semi-finals, as he thinks his attitude towards squad rotation throughout the season is now paying dividends.

He said: “We have looked after our players and what I kept mentioning earlier on in the season was, second half of the season we will be strong and we will finish strongly. That’s coming to fruition and now we are in really good form, all ready to go.

“So what we don’t want to do now is lose momentum. Momentum is easily lost, and if you take your foot off the gas or your eye off the ball, momentum is lost.

“We want to finish strongly, we want to finish fourth. We feel that’s the minimum we deserve from this season. Then we have got eight days to prepare and rest – well not rest, but to get them ready, because it’s a big time.”
