Teenage stopper joins Poppies for a month
Young Hatters goalkeeper Liam Gooch has joined Non-League side Kettering Town on a one-month youth loan.
It is the 19-year-old’s second experience of the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division this season, having spent time on loan with Hitchin Town before Christmas.
Ironically, Gooch’s first appearance in competitive senior football came against the Northamptonshire club when he kept a clean sheet in the goalless draw at Top Field in mid-November.
The Stotfold-based stopper, who starred in last season’s Under-18s team that reached the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals and won the Football League Youth Alliance league and cup double, could make his debut for the Poppies on their trip to Weymouth on Saturday.
Hatters goalkeeper coach Kevin Dearden said: “Liam benefitted a lot from his spell with Hitchin earlier this season and this will be another great experience for him with a big club at Step 3 of the Non-League pyramid.”
All at Kenilworth Road wish Liam well during his stay at Latimer Park.
