MATCH PREVIEW: SWINDON TOWN V LUTON TOWN

25 December 2017

Sponsored by

The Hatters head to Swindon Town tomorrow looking to add to their lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two.

A 2-0 win against Grimsby Town on Saturday helped move the Town four points clear at the top of the table and extend their run to just one defeat in their last 22 games in all competitions.

Former Robins striker James Collins got on the scoresheet against the Mariners to net his 10th of the campaign after a spell out through injury, with the result also helping to put the gap between first and fourth to ten points.

A run of five straight league defeats hampered tomorrow's hosts' hopes of pushing for a place nearer the top of the table for the end of 2017, but they are still within touching distance of the top seven.

Their top scorer this season Luke Norris has nine to his name, including one against the Hatters in the win for the Robins at Kenilworth Road back at the beginning of September.

THE GAFFER SAYS:

On the travelling support this Boxing Day: "It's wonderful, the support we have is truly wonderful, it really is. I keep saying about it, that it doesn't surprise me them getting right behind the team.

"The team are giving them performances so there's a good feel good factor because both are driving each other on."

On results so far and not letting up against Swindon: "We're halfway through and we're in a good place and what we want to do is come out of the Christmas period in an even better position than what we went into it. We're not going to take our foot off the pedal in any way and it's important that we back that up.

"We have already lost to Swindon and so we know what a dangerous side they are and that's all the motivation we need."

WHO?

A side who are a part of the play-off chasing pack, Swindon got back to winning ways on Saturday with a resounding 3-0 win at Crewe. Back in the fourth tier after a five-season absence, David Flitcroft has got off to a mixed start with his new side. But now within just two points of seventh, he will see tomorrow's game as an ideal opportunity for the Robins to repeat the win at Kenilworth Road his side enjoyed earlier on this season to help really propel them up the table.

Last time they climbed out of Sky Bet League Two was with former West Ham United forward Paulo Di Canio at the helm, with players such as Alan McCormack, Paul Benson and Jonathan Smith helping pave the way to the League Two title in 2012.

WHEN AND WHERE?

Kick-of is at 3pm on Tuesday 26th December at the County Ground.

1,290 tickets have been presold by the Hatters, with none available for purchase until the day of the game. You can find out more information on that by clicking here.

LAST TIME WE PLAYED?

One of only three teams to beat the Hatters in 23 league outings so far this season, Flitcroft's side inflicted a 3-0 defeat on the Hatters back in September at Kenilworth Road.

Boxing Day's game will be the 103rd meeting – of the previous 102 games, the Hatters have won 46 and the Robins have been victorious in 35. Our last win against them came last season, when Josh McQuoid and Isaac Vassell netted in a 3-2 victory in the Checkatrade Trophy.
