All the facts ahead of our match against the Mariners
This afternoon we welcome Grimsby Town to Kenilworth Road, in what will see the two top scorers in the division go head-to-head.
Danny Hylton and Omar Bogle are tied on five goals and two assists so far in this campaign, but the Hatters and the Mariners sit in slightly different positions going into the game.
Grimsby have had a mixed start to the campaign, but seemed to have found their shooting boots, netting seven goals in their past two games, with five coming against Stevenage, as they sit in mid-table.
Bogle netted a hat-trick that game, as he continues his rebirth in football, climbing back up the divisions after being released by Birmingham City and then Celtic.
He then joined Hinckley United, before enjoying a goal filled spell with Solihull Moors, and finally earning a move to Grimsby Town.
This game will mark the 51st times the sides have met, the first coming at Christmas time in 1897, when Luton ran out 6-0 winners in front of a crowd of 5000.
The fixture hasn’t always favoured Luton, and it tells in the fact the Hatters have only won 16 of their 50 meetings in the club’s history.
Currently managed by Rotherham United legend, Paul Hurst, the Mariners have won two, drawn one and lost three so far this campaign.
It’s a start Nathan Jones has been impressed with, as he said: “I think they are finding their feet at this level now, they have a good squad and a great structure in terms of the way they play, it will be a really difficult game.”
Our most recent game against the Mariners came in a 2-1 victory for the Hatters back in 2014, as we won promotion from the National League, or as it was known all those years ago, the Conference.
