Hatters youngsters season of success continues

Second half goals from Freddie Hinds and James Verney booked the Town Under-18s’ place in the final of the Youth Alliance League Cup after a 2-0 win over Swindon at Kenilworth Road.

Paul Driver’s side, winners of the South East division, were always comfortable against a Swindon side – who finished seven in the South West – who failed to seriously test Town keeper Liam Gooch.

But it took the young Hatters 70 minutes to finally break the visitors’ resistance when Hinds raced through and finished with aplomb for his 19th goal of the season.

Swindon tried their best to force an equaliser but it was the Town who looked the more likely to add to the scoreline in the closing stages.

And, after George Murray’s shot was well-saved by Swindon keeper Connor Johns, substitute Verney made the game safe with the final kick of the night when rounding Johns and calmly slotting home his 10th of the campaign.

Victory means the Town will face Shrewsbury in the final at a location and on a date to be confirmed in the near future.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Town: Gooch, Justin, McJannet, McGhan-George, Famewo, Cotter, Bakinson, Atkinson, Cotter, Snelus, Murray, Hinds (sub Verney). Subs not used: Bean, Parker, Jones, Brown.
