Highly-rated keeper joins on loan for the rest of the season

The Hatters have completed the signing of young goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell on loan from Championship club Derby County for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old stopper made his debut for the Rams in their FA Cup victory at Hartlepool United in January.

Highly-rated at the iPro Stadium, Mitchell signed for Derby in 2014 having left Newcastle United where he had come through the academy.

Mitchell has been a regular for both the Magpies’ and the Rams’ academy and development sides – making his reserve team debut for Newcastle aged just 15 in 2011.

The youngster, who has also experienced two loan spells in the Conference North with Workington, has signed in time for the Hatters’ game with Leyton Orient this afternoon. He will wear squad number 21.

Manager Nathan Jones told lutontown.co.uk: “We think Jonathan is one of the best young goalkeeper’s around.

“We’ve seen him play and we like what we see. I think he will bring a lot to Luton Town.

“He’s highly thought of at Derby and we believe in his ability.”

Welcome to Luton Town Jonathan!
