Hatters open up Kenilworth Road to combat loneliness

The Hatters are opening up Kenilworth Road every Wednesday morning from next week for the over-50s age group for a weekly social club.

The weekly social club will run from 10am for two hours each Wednesday and will offer a variety of activities to engage with lonely and vulnerable members of the local community.

Activities will be dependent upon the wishes of those attending, but plans for film-shows, talks, bingo, quizzes and indoor bowls arealready in place.

Daniel Douglas, Community Operations Manager at the Hatters Community Trust told lutontown.co.uk: “Loneliness among the over-50s age group is a growing problem in society and especially at this time of year after all of the excitement of Christmas.

“We hope by opening up our stadium we can provide somewhere friendly and maybe familiar for people to meet and socialise and make new friends.”

The first social club will be in the Eric Morecambe lounge at the stadium from 10am next Wednesday 13th January and there will be teas and coffees as well as a big screen showing of a Morecambe & Wise special as well as a behind the scenes stadium tour.

Anyone over 50 can simply turn up on the day and for further information on upcoming activities at the social club please contact the Hatters Community Trust office on 01582 737568.
