New Town signing Alan Sheehan doesn’t want to be in League 2 – but will do all he can to help the Hatters climb the table under Nathan Jones.

The defender arrived at Kenilworth Road last week on loan for the rest of the season from League 1 Bradford and made his debut at centre-half as the Hatters won 2-0 at Mansfield.

"I don't want to be in this league, and the manager doesn't want to be in this league so I suppose we have something in common," said the 29-year-old.

"It's a big club, with a big fan base and the people involved in the club like Mick Harford, he's a legend. I've always been a big fan of him. I don't give this statement out much but he's a hard man. You look up to people like him.

"But the manager’s got a big plan for the club, but it's going to take time for any manager to implement his style, but when everybody gives 100 per cent like they did then we look a good side."

Sheehan admitted it didn’t take long for him to be won over by Jones to put pen to paper.

He said: "I had a conversation with the manager. He told me that he wanted me to be here and he wanted me to be his first signing.

"After speaking to him for 15 minutes I knew that I wanted to come here."

You can read more from Alan Sheehan in Saturday’s programme and you can watch two interviews with the defender on Hatters Player.
