New boss confirms defender has skipper

Nathan Jones has revealed that Scott Cuthbert will take over the permanent captaincy of the Hatters.

The new boss explained at his Thursday press conference that the 28-year-old defender, who has had the armband since Stephen McNulty's departure in October, will be the Town skipper.

"If Scott is fit then he will be because he's a leader," said Jones. "He's someone I can trust. I want to be close to my captain.

"He's someone I know, I've played against him. He's well-respected around here so yes, he will be my captain."

At his first pre-match press call ahead of Saturday's game with Cambridge, Jones said he will have a virtually fully-fit squad to choose from for his first match in charge.

"As far as I'm concerned, not unless someone's tripped over on their way back into the building, we're okay," said Jones.

"We're okay numbers wise and and in terms of fitness. It's been a good week because we've had a full squad to work with.

"Hopefully that will continue, we've got one day left [Friday] and I think we'll have a full squad to choose from."
