Town community department start-up walking football sessions

  • Walking Football
  • Venue 360 every Wednesday 6pm to 7pm
  • Calling all over 50s Hatters fans - its time to get your boots back on!
Starting this week the Hatters Community department will be running a weekly walking football session at Venue 360 for anyone over 50 who is looking to get back playing the beautiful game - only slightly slower!

Last year we held a Football League Trust regional walking football tournament at Venue 360 and the turnout was great with three teams competing for the Hatters against sides from other local professional clubs including Northampton, Stevenage and Norwich. We hope by holding weekly sessions we can hold similar tournaments but on a regular basis.

If you’ve not tried it before and think what’s the point, then believe us when we say that last year’s tournament was extremely competitive – especially when Norwich turned up in the first team coach with a ‘Mourinho’ as manager! Of course, the sessions we will be running will be really about getting fit and so can be as competitive or as friendly as you want – the real benefit is exercising without really thinking about it. Just think about the health benefits for a second – more muscle, harder bones and better cardiovascular systems that can help you build strength, lose weight and improve core stability – think how much better you will feel sinking a pint after all that!

The rules are simple, the same as five-a-side, if you can cast your memory back that far, except if you run, you concede a free-kick!

We will be running every Wednesday evening from this week between 6-7pm on the astroturf cages at the back of Venue 360 and really hope to see as many of you as possible. Don’t worry if you haven’t pulled a shirt on for 20 years or you are think you might lack a bit of confidence – everybody will be in the same boat, so why not come along for the fun?

The cost of each session will be just £5 and you can simply pay and play with no commitment to play regularly – you can miss a week or two and play whenever you feel up to it.

If you want further information, or to register a place, simply call the community office on 01582 737568 or email us on community@lutontown.co.uk.
