Youth Team coach blown away by backing ahead of quarter-final
Under-18s boss Paul Driver says he has been overwhelmed by the support that his team has received on their way to reaching the last eight of the FA Youth Cup.
The Town travel to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night eyeing a place in the semi-finals following wins over Colchester, Orient, Notts County, Oldham and Preston.
Driver’s team will be backed by a strong contingent of Hatters fans who will make the trip to Ewood Park – including a coach of supporters on the Bobbers, who have helped fund the players’ overnight stay.
“I’m absolutely overwhelmed with the support we’ve had both inside and outside of the club,” Driver told lutontown.co.uk. “There’s not been a day when Nathan Jones or one of his staff hasn’t watched one of our sessions and the first team players have all taken their boot boys to heart!
“Then we’ve had the support of the Bobbers and Solyd for what will be our third overnight stay.
“And the fans have been terrific – to have supporters coming up from Bedfordshire for the Blackburn game is unbelievable.
“Some of our northern-based fans have seen the Oldham and Preston games so it will be good for a few more supporters to watch us.
“It’s a pity we haven’t been able to play at Kenilworth Road since the first round but hopefully we can put on a performance at Blackburn to get a home tie in the semi-finals.
“It would have been nice to have a home tie, but the reception the boys have seen through Twitter and at Kenilworth Road when they lifted the League title trophy has been quite something.”
The Bobbers are running a coach to Blackburn, so if you fancy making the trip up to Lancashire – the Town haven’t played at Ewood since 1981 – call 01234 856542 and book your place. They leave the Luton train station coachway at 12.30 and the fare is £29 adults and £26 concessions.
