Boss aims to prove the bookies wrong with title ambition

Hatters boss Nathan Jones spoke of his excitement ahead of the big Sky Bet League Two kick-off at Plymouth on Saturday when he met the Press at Ely Way after training this afternoon.

And the Kenilworth Road gaffer told how he intends to prove wrong the bookmakers, who have the Town down as third favourites for the division.

Asked whether he was nervous or excited, the Welshman replied: “I’m excited. We’ve had a good pre-season. Six weeks is quite a long time when you are working to a certain goal, and now the start of the season has come, and it’s an important time for us.

“I’m excited because we’ve done some good work, we’ve managed to recruit well, and it’s a little bit more my team now. I know the group we have.

"I’ve enjoyed pre-season, but it’s time for it to start now.”

On being third favourites behind Portsmouth and Doncaster Rovers, Jones added: “I’d like to win the league, so my ambitions are slightly bigger than the bookies’ for us, but that kind of pressure comes from being at a club this size, in this division.

“Teams like Portsmouth have to do it, Doncaster because they came down. Plymouth are among it. Leyton Orient because they’ve spent money. It goes along with the territory.

“But this league is such an unpredictable league. What we have to do is be consistent in the results that we get and we have to be positive.”
