Alex Gilliead is in excellent spirits after joining the Hatters on loan from Newcastle United

New signing Alex Gilliead said he is over the moon to be joining the Hatters – as he begins his first loan spell away from his northeast home.

The 20-year-old joins the Town from Newcastle United on loan until January, but he said he cannot wait to get his career underway in an orange shirt.

The former Carlisle loanee said: “I am over the moon to be here. It’s going to be something different as it’s my first loan away from home.

“I spoke to Nathan last week and he was really positive, what he said I really bought into and made me think he really does want to do well this season.”

Gilliead made 41 appearances after joining the Cumbrians last September on loan, and he hopes that he can continue his progress at Kenilworth Road after thoroughly enjoying his time in the division last season.

“Once I got going last season in League Two I loved every minute of it. You have got the highs and lows and anyone can beat anyone.”
Gilliead will wear the number 15 shirt for the Town, you can check out his full interview by signing up to Hatter Player by clicking here.
