Musonda gets an hour as Town youngsters triumph
The Hatters Under-18s returned to winning ways in the Merit League with a 4-1 win at Barnet on Friday afternoon.Following the previous weekend’s late defeat at Exeter, Paul Driver named a strong side against a much younger Barnet outfit and was able to name skipper Frankie Musonda following his return from injury.
The Town youngsters took the lead in the first minute courtesy of Alex Atkinson’s penalty and the lead was doubled in the final minute of the first half when Akin Famewo tapped home.
It took the Hatters just two minutes into the second half to go 3-0 in front when George Murray converted from close range.
Barnet reduced the deficit with 20 minutes left but the Town made the points safe three minutes from time when Atkinson netted his second from the penalty spot.
Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “It was a scrappy game but we played some good football in periods and the pleasing aspect was that we took our chances.
“We were up against a more inexperienced team but we were happy with our overall play.
“We got an hour into Frankie, too, which is a bonus and we will continue to nurse him back into action as approach the League Cup final against Shrewsbury later this month.”
Next weekend the Town take on Plymouth Argyle at Ely Way. Kick-off is at 1pm.
