Midfielder says Town must begin to show their star qualities

Cameron McGeehan says it’s time for the Hatters to start showing their quality as they prepare for the first of two successive home games in League 2 when they welcome Mansfield to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The Town have won just one League game so far this term and that came away from home at Cambridge two weeks ago.

And McGeehan, who returned to the side following a suspension and scored in last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Notts County, believes the Hatters can be a success this season.

“These are big games for us now,” the 20-year-old told Hatters Player. “There has been a lot of talk about being patient but it’s about time we got a couple of wins to put a marker down and for us to start pushing on.

“We can’t let the teams at top get too far ahead of us. It’s our aim to win the title. We need to win these games coming up and push on up the table.

“We’ve got to get going quickly and start putting points on the board.”

The Hatters slipped to their fourth defeat of the season at Meadow Lane last weekend, conceding an crucial injury-time goal for also the fourth time.

“We’ve just got to tighten up as a team in the final minutes,” said McGeehan, who has already scored three goals this season. “Going forward we’re looking good but defensively we’ve got to work harder as a team and stop conceding sloppy goals.

“Late goals has been the theme so far but it needs addressing because we can’t keep doing that. We’re getting into good positions in games and not getting the points. We were 2-0 up against Oxford and Yeovil, and a point would have been okay against Portsmouth and Notts County.

“But there’s no time to panic, we’ve got a lot of games left and we’re a squad full of quality players.

“There’s a long time to go but we’ve got to starting putting some wins on the table and show what we’re about.

“As a team we’ve got the quality to win the league, but it’s time we started showing that on the pitch.”
