Town youngsters win again

The Hatters Under-18s went four points clear at the top of the Youth Alliance after three goals in the final 12 minutes secured a 4-1 win over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday morning.

George Murray put the Town in front on the half-hour when finding the net following a short-corner routine.

But the Hatters youngsters were pegged back on the hour when the Dons scored an equaliser from the penalty spot.

However Paul Driver’s side rallied and Kavan Cotter put the Town back in front on 78 minutes when he raced clear, saw a shot saved but tapped home the rebound.

The Hatters made it 3-1 with five minutes to go when Frankie Musonda volleyed home Cameron McJannet’s free-kick at the back post.

And the Town wrapped up the points to make it 15 wins from 17 unbeaten games in all competitions when James Verney sped away from the Dons’ defence to finish well.

A disappointed Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “Despite the result it wasn’t the best we’ve played this season – probably the poorest all season.

“It’s a performance that has given us something to think about going forward. The only added bonus was that Southend lost and we’ve gone four points clear with a game in hand.

“Credit to Wimbledon, however, they made it really difficult for us.”

Town: Gooch, Bean, Justin, Musonda, Famewo, McGhan-George, Atkinson, Bakinson (sub McJannet 75), Snelus, Murray (sub Verney 85), Hinds (sub Cotter 55).
