Unbeaten Town win again to go five points clear

The Hatters Under-18s made it 20 games unbeaten this season – and went five points clear at the top of the Youth Alliance – after a 2-0 win over MK Dons at Ely Way this morning.

Paul Driver’s side were held against Gillingham at the weekend but got back to winning ways thanks to two early second-half goals from Freddie Hinds and Tyreeq Bakinson to complete a double over the Dons this season.

The Town youngsters had the better chances in the first half with Hinds shooting over and Frankie Musonda shooting wide. The Milton Keynes goalkeeper also denied efforts from George Murray and Alex Atkinson.

However, the Hatters broke the deadlock five minutes after half-time when Hinds hammered home a shot from inside the penalty area for his 12th goal of the season.

With their tails up, one became two six minutes later when Bakinson rifled an unstoppable shot from 20 yards into the top corner to double the Town’s lead.

And with the game safe Driver’s side were able to see out a comfortable victory and keep a 12th clean sheet of the season.

The victory also extends the youth team’s unbeaten record to 28 games, which goes back to the back end of last season.

Boss Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “Possession-wise it was an even first half but we had the better of the chances. At half-time with the score goalless we told the boys to up the intensity with the ball and we came out and scored two early goals.

“For us, though, the best aspect of the game was 66 minutes for midfielder Josh Brown who made his first start following a broken leg. He’s like a new player for us and was brilliant today.

“To come back from that injury is some achievement and we’re all really, really delighted for him.”

Town: Trialist; Justin, McJannet, Famewo, Musonda; Brown (sub Cotter 66), Bakinson, Atkinson, Snelus; Murray, Hinds (sub Verney 81). Subs not used: Gooch, Bean, McGhan-George.

The Town Under-18s are next in action this coming Saturday when they host Stevenage at Ely Way (kick-off 11am). Click here for their fixtures and results.
