Defender aiming high after returning to winning ways
Forget the Play-Offs – Scott Griffiths wants the Town to win automatic promotion after Sunday’s 2-0 win at his former club Dagenham & Redbridge moved the Hatters to within six points of third spot in League 2.
“I know a lot of people would be happy with the Play-Offs but I'm not really interested in that,” the 29-year-old left-back told Hatters Player after the Victoria Road victory.
“If it's not automatic promotion, for me, it's not worth it. I want to be in a team that's flying. I want to be in a team that earns the right to go up straight away.
“I'm not saying the people in the Play-Off positions haven't, but the feeling of going up automatically, and even more so as champions, is unmatched, so that's what I want.”
The defender made a return to the Town side after missing the four previous League games.
And Griffiths, who joined the Town in April 2013 and has made 107 appearances for the club, is relishing the competition at left-back with summer arrival Dan Potts.
“I just do what I need to do and hopefully the gaffer will see fit to keep me in the squad,” he said. “It's not going to come without hard work and determination, of course, but it will be nice if I'm considered for the next game as well.
“When Pottsy came in he did well. He did a good job and I'm just glad to have been given another chance to prove myself.
“It's never comfortable having competition, but it's also very good for you because, although you do try hard, you give that little bit extra. You want to do better, you want do well and, even if the other guy gets in front of you at any point, you say ‘well done’, just carry on doing what you're doing and hopefully win your place back.”
