In-form Green says Town must show up at Newport

Winger Danny Green insists the Hatters must bounce back to winning ways at Newport on Saturday after their midweek collapse against Carlisle left the Town four points shy of the Play-Offs.

Green scored his fourth goal of the season to put the Hatters 3-1 in front against Keith Curle’s side but the visitors stormed back to win 4-3 in a dramatic final 20 minutes.

And the 27-year-old says the Town owe the fans a result after capitulating against the Cumbrians.

“We've really got to turn up on Saturday at Newport. We can't afford to drop many points,” said the former Dagenham and Charlton midfielder.

“It's a long old drive, but we've just got to go down there, be professional and show up, especially for the travelling fans because they've been brilliant this year.

“To take 2,000 to Stevenage last week was unbelievable. The support there was brilliant and it has been all season, so we've got to make sure we put on a show for them.”

After rattling the woodwork in the goalless draw at Stevenage, Green notched his fourth goal in nine starts for the Town on Tuesday and now he hopes that form can keep him in the side.

“Personally, I'm happy with four goals this season so far and a couple of assists,” Green told Player. “I think I should have had a few more assists. I think I would have had more if I'd have played a bit more.

“I'm just finding my fitness and hopefully I can keep my place in the team and be a regular name on the team sheet.”
