Boss on what's needed for better season in 15/16
It might seem obvious, given the importance of them in the game of football, but scoring more goals and conceding less of them is high on the list of priorities for John Still when it comes to his player recruitment this summer.
And with the Hatters missing out on the Play-Offs by just three points in their first season back in the Football League, Still knows even the smallest amount of improvement could go a long when the 2015/16 League 2 campaign gets under way on 8th August.
“When you get promoted and the bulk of the squad is still there, there comes a time when you look at the group as a whole and decide what the next step is,” the boss told the official YouTube channel.
“It happens all the time when a club gets promoted because people have to step up to the next level and you don’t always know who can and who can’t.
“All the lads have been absolutely terrific but looking at the contributions we’ve had, we want to improve on that. It’s not about people doing poorly. It’s about the next step and pushing on.
“We’ve said about where are now and where we started. Since that match at Braintree we’ve made unbelievable strides and it’s important we keep trying to do that.
“We will be trying to bring players to this club to make us that little bit stronger, and that’s what it’s all about. If we’re successful in our recruitment we feel we’ll be able to push again next season and improve a little on what we’ve done this season.
“It’s interesting because perhaps we’ve not scored as many goals this season, so we’ll look at that area. Can we add goals? Absolutely. But can we concede less?
“It’s easy to say ‘we’ve had people out injured or suspended’ but we’ll be after players who can come in and help in those areas.”
