Town midfielder wants to be even better next season

Not many players say that they relish a return to pre-season training just minutes after the season ended, but Nathan Doyle can’t wait for the first day back already.

The Town will report for their summer schedules on 29th June and Doyle, who was voted player of the year at the recent end-of-season awards, is looking forward to his first full pre-season at Kenilworth Road.

“As much as people hate it, I’m quite looking forward to it,” explains Doyle, who left former club Bradford last summer and didn’t sign for the Hatters until September.

“It was difficult last year training on my own, trying to keep fit. It wasn’t the same training full-time at a professional club.

“Getting the running done and working hard is the aim next pre-season and hopefully you will see a stronger, fitter, better Nathan Doyle.”

They are ominous words from the Town’s player of year, who paid tribute to manager John Still for giving him an opportunity this season.

“The gaffer filled me with positivity when he was talking to me,” says the 28-year-old. “My hope at the start of the season was to get back into the game, find a club and when I signed here it was to do my best for Luton Town.

“All credit to him because when I started I never thought we would have the rollercoaster we’ve had this year.

“But we’ve been up there for most of the season – and for a team that has just come up from the Conference that’s magnificent.”
