Town youngsters win again to lead Merit Division table

A young Town youth team, containing a number of under-16s, leapt to the top of the Youth Alliance Merit Division table with their fourth successive 2-0 win – this time over Exeter City – on Tuesday afternoon.

A number of the team had been involved in the development squad’s 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon less than 24 hours beforehand, and Paul Driver’s side took the lead in the 20th minute when Daril Ngwala closed down the Exeter goalkeeper’s kick before firing home.

The Town continued to dominate and doubled their lead a minute into the second half when, from Ngwala’s corner, Frankie Musonda’s header crashed off the crossbar and in off the head of the unfortunate Exeter keeper.

Two goals to the good the young Hatters went in search of more goals, but the closest they came to scoring a third was when Luke Trotman flashed a drive wide of the target.

A delighted Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “It was such a pleasing result, especially given the age of the team – in total six under-16s were involved – and considering a number of those were playing for the development squad yesterday it is a credit to them all.

“It was an all-round good performance, a fourth successive clean sheet, and the result puts us top of the table with four games to go.”

On Saturday the Hatters host Watford at Ely Way (kick-off 11am). Why not pop along and support the Town stars of the future? Spectators are welcome.

Town U18: Gooch, Cotter, McJannet (sub Snelus 81), Fanewo, Musonda, Trotman, Magaraushe, Bakinson (sub Justin 74), Atkinson, Ngwala (sub Hines 69), Craig. Subs not used: Harker, Murray.
