Hatters youngsters downed by Argyle

The Town Under-18s lost their unbeaten record in the Youth Alliance merit league after a 2-1 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Paul Driver’s side took the lead on 25 minutes when Leeroy Maguraushe found the net.

But the Town allowed the Pilgrims to score twice before half-time to get ahead at Creasey Park.

The Hatters came close to finding an equaliser in the second period, only for Geo Craig to be denied by a sprawling save by the Argyle keeper.

But despite the result, Driver was not too downhearted.

“We have played worse than that this season and won – last week against Peterborough being one example,” the coach told lutontown.co.uk. “Plymouth are a decent side but their goals came from little errors from us in defence and they punished us.

“It’s something we’ll learn from, but performance-wise, taking away the final score, I was happy with the way we played.”

Town U18s: Gooch, Trotman, Perry, Musonda, Fanowa, Maguraushe (sub Hinds 65), Justin, Allman (sub Cotter 78), Galliford, Ngwala (sub Atkinson 78), Craig. Subs not used: Gottleib, McJannett.
