Boss looking forward to Fratton Park clash
Manager John Still believes Saturday is the perfect time for his out-of-form Hatters to take on Portsmouth.
The Town make first visit to Fratton Park in 20 years at the weekend, but go in to the game on a run of four defeats in their last five matches in League 2.
Still’s side have also lost their last three on the road, but with 2,700 Hatters fans making the trip to the South Coast, the boss can’t wait.
“The game comes at good time for us if I’m being honest,” Still said at his Thursday press conference. “It’s the right time to play this game. Portsmouth are in good form and we know we need to pick ourselves up to try and keep ourselves in the promotion shake-up.
“It’s a good opportunity because this is a game that people really want to play in.”
For the second successive campaign in League 2, former FA Cup winners Portsmouth have found success hard to come by.
But under February manager of the month Andy Awford, Pompey’s form has turned the corner slightly, with Saturday’s hosts losing just once of their last nine matches.
“They’ve picked up – I think it’s a big surprise to everyone that they aren’t doing particularly well, but they have picked up recently,” said Still.
“It will be a great game and I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to a proper atmosphere against a team who are in form.
“We’re going to have to be bright, alert and focused to be able to compete.”
